Roberts

We are Appalachian people through and through, and feel a deep sense of love for our Tennessee heritage. My Roberts line can be traced back to Benjamin Roberts, born in 1767 in Pennsylvania. He married a woman by the name of Barbary, who was born approximately.1785. There is a mystery surrounding these two individuals as little or no further information can be found about them. Family tradition is steeped in legends of Native American connections, but that has yet to be confirmed. My Pappaw Roberts' people had dark skin, and he relayed to my mother that the Roberts family were Black Dutch, a term that was used by several mixed ethnic families during the 17th century to avoid the prejudice that was enacted so heavily against the Native American's, African Americans, and Melungeons.

So the search goes on, but as I continue to dig I will post everything that I have on this site as a tribute to my mother's family. The pages below will take you on a journey that is my Tennessee heritage. Please take some time to get to know the people who contributed to the beautiful spirit that is my mother.
